Activity 4-1 : Memory Strategies
On which I score 6, which I have a good memory strategy but need improvement on it
( note that below 5 means you got a wrong memory strategy but can still be improved)
What is memory ?
Ability to remember past experience and the power or process of recalling to mind previously learned fact, experience, impressions, skills and habit.
Having a good memory involved both putting information into memory and getting it back out (storage and retrieval)
INFORMATION PROCESSING MODEL
- Memory involve a few complex stages ( refer picture 1)
- Consist of 3 type of memory ; long term (LTM) , short term (STM) and sensory memory.
INFORMATION PROCESSING MODEL
- Memory involve a few complex stages ( refer picture 1)
- Consist of 3 type of memory ; long term (LTM) , short term (STM) and sensory memory.
Picture 1
3 Step to remember ;
1. encoding ( intrepeting information in a meaningful way
2. storage ( working on information so it can be place in LTM )
3. retrive (getting information out of LTM)
SENSORY MEMORY ;
- If one pay attention to stimuli it will get into short-term memory, if not it will be forgotten.
- Stimuli : Smell, touch, sight, sound, taste.
SHORT-TERM MEMORY ;
- Immediate memory ( remember small amount of information in a few second )
- Working memory ( system for temporarily storing and managing information required to carry out complex cognitive tasks )
LONG TERM MEMORY ;
- Unlimited & large storage
- Can be stored for a really long time
- STM -> LTM ( stored for retrieval)
- Can be forgotten if not used for a long time
MEMORY STRATEGIES
Why do we forgot ?
- Not paying attention when the information is given
- Not writing it down as a reminder or note
- Not understand
- Cramming to much information at once
How to improve memory ?
- Massed practice v. spaced practice
- Take it little by little ( not cramming the information )
- Repeat the information to yourself
- Elaborate - acronym, association, organizational ( alphabetical or colorized )
Is there any way or strategies to memorize better ?
yes, there is look at activity 4-7 which is organizational strategies. You can try to I had .
Example above are using method by remembering through elaborate by classifying each on their on type ; thing you write, read or ride. Therefore, make it more recognizable. Which is why it named Organizational Strategy.
STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING CONCENTRATION
Concentration - focus on what you do
why cant concentrate ?
- lack of attention, interest and motivation.
- Distraction from others
- Unsuitable Environment ; too crowded or noisy.
- Physiology matter ; illness
- Psychology matter : personal problem
How to concentrate ?
- Eat breakfast - to avoid losing attention due to hunger
- Drink some water - increase brain function
- Find motivation - increase interest
- worry about it a little more - bring awareness
- Put picture of nature - in your study area
Below are the question to check whether your concentration strategy is right or not :
There is also a concentration chart which is to make a table content of 5 element ;
Date, Study Task, Concentration problem, Cause and Strategy.
The example is as below :
- This way it helps to sort out how you could overcome the distraction and make your learning more peaceful.
SQ3R: SURVEY-QUESTION-READ-RECITE-REVIEW
- A more improved way to make studying, concentrating and remembering easier.
- 5 step as detailed below ;
you can practice this method with the paragraph provided below :
